Pearl River Howard Plaza

A Cantonese-style Restaurant with Elegance and Comfort

The Pearl River Howard Plaza is a unique and elegant Cantonese-style restaurant located in Howard Plaza Hotel, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Designed by Cheung Chiu Hung and his team, this restaurant breaks away from the traditional spatial ambiance of Cantonese cuisines, offering a space that combines Chinese aesthetic sentiment with elegance and comfort.

Inspired by the bustling atmosphere of Cantonese restaurants, the design team ingeniously applied spatial segmentation to create distinct areas within the restaurant. Each area features different seating styles, catering to the diverse needs of the hotel's customers. This innovative approach solves the challenges faced by the hotel proprietors when accommodating various customer groups.

One of the standout features of the Pearl River Howard Plaza is the clever use of natural light. The original space had dim lighting, lacking vitality. To address this, the design team incorporated a large glass element that allows copious natural light to shine upon the circular seats during the day. This not only brightens the space but also brings in the greenery from outside. In the evening, strategically placed lights create a romantic ambiance, providing a relaxing atmosphere for guests.

The restaurant spans 495 square meters and showcases elements such as marbles and wood carving lines to enhance the spatial layers and overall quality. The open-style booths are adorned with Chinese-inspired wallpapers, adding aesthetic sentiment to the space. The carpet, designed using Chinese ink painting techniques, resembles exquisite paintings, adding sophistication and attention to detail to the overall design.

One of the notable aspects of the Pearl River Howard Plaza is the inclusion of a tea savoring area. This area caters to customers who prefer to enjoy tea without a full meal. It showcases the human-oriented core principle of the design, providing thoughtful amenities for guests and fostering a sense of mutual trust and connection.

The Pearl River Howard Plaza project was completed in April 2019 and has been recognized for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges the creativity and ingenuity of the design, which incorporates best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The Pearl River Howard Plaza exemplifies how thoughtful design can contribute to improving the quality of life and creating a better world.

In conclusion, the Pearl River Howard Plaza is a testament to the innovative and unique approach of Cheung Chiu Hung and his team. By reimagining the spatial ambiance of Cantonese cuisines, they have created a restaurant that combines Chinese aesthetic sentiment with elegance and comfort. The use of natural light, the incorporation of traditional elements, and the thoughtful amenities provided all contribute to a memorable dining experience. The Pearl River Howard Plaza sets a new standard for Cantonese-style restaurants, offering a space that fosters connection, relaxation, and enjoyment.
